Explorer’s Diaries is at the heart of The Best of Bodrum. It is a living archive of thoughts, memories and observations from both myself and the wider community. While I usually focus on facts and practical information in this project, this space captures the soul of the journey. Through explorers diaries, Bodrum becomes more than a destination. It becomes a feeling. It is also a Bodrum blog that shows how travelling is shaped more by the mind and heart than by the map.
As the Aegean Traveller, I explore my relationship with Bodrum, Türkiye and sometimes with life itself within the Bodrum Journal, where the tone becomes more personal. Some articles reflect the slow rhythm of the peninsula, while others focus on small everyday details that make exploring and discovering so captivating. It is not a guidebook or a travel report. It is closer to a personal travel journal. Here I share what I notice, what I learn and what I sometimes struggle to understand. Travel is not only movement; it is reflection. My goal is to offer a perspective that goes beyond the surface.
The most exciting section of the site is probably Traveller Voices because it belongs to the community. It gathers guest travel stories and memories from readers who wish to share their own Bodrum experience. Over the years, I have realised that every visitor carries a different version of the Aegean in their mind. Each voice adds a new colour. One visitor may remember a childhood summer. Another may describe a sailing journey across the Aegean. Together, these stories show that there is no single Bodrum. This section also explains how you can share your Bodrum story and become part of this growing archive.
Expressing a feeling or an experience is not always easy, especially when English is not my mother tongue. That is one reason why Bodrum Photos has a place within Explorer’s Diaries. This visual diary presents selections from my large photography archive, organised around themes such as Bodrum stray cats, fishing boats or sunset in Bodrum. It is a Bodrum photo blog shaped by years of Bodrum photography. These are not postcard views. They are invitations to see the peninsula as I see it.
In the end, real stories and lived experiences allow us to connect deeply with a place. Bodrum may appear small on the map, yet it contains many atmospheres, characters and possibilities. When we listen to each other’s memories, it inspires us to create our own Bodrum Experiences. In Explorer’s Diaries, we pause. We observe. And we remember that every traveller carries a different Bodrum within.
